Micro-Cord / Visco Fuse is required throughout the world for all consumer fireworks and for a very good reason; it is a safe, reliable and easy to use means of initiation. It can also be used to create delays in the rate of firing multiple fireworks linked together or for firing multiple tubes / cakes in display fireworks to create a burst train.
It is easily recognized, Being 1.5 – 3.0 mm thick with a black powder / gunpowder core, It is distinguished from safety fuse in that microcord is significantly externally burning, producing a substantial amount of side fuse spit which provides lateral transmission of flame and is rather fully consumed as it burns instead of leaving a distinguished carcass.
It provides a much safer and reliable alternative to the quick match fuse which was traditionally used in fireworks for creating delays.
Micro-cord is made with four external layers, the first is yarn wrapped around the inner gunpowder core, then a second layer of yarn is wrapped around in the opposite direction to prevent unwrapping, then, another layer of yarn is added in the opposite direction to further strengthen the micro-cord. The fourth and final layer is comprised of a nitrocellulose lacquer, which as well as preventing the fuse from falling apart also helps to waterproof the fuse and stops the black powder core from degrading.
